On Tuesday, 27 December 2022, a waste management orientation programme was held at the Sabha Hall of Khairahani Municipality. The programme carried the message “Let’s separate our waste, let’s all join in” and brought together local residents and community members to learn how better waste habits at home keep the town clean.
What the programme covered
- Why separating waste at home matters, and what happens to mixed waste
- A live demonstration by the Safa Urja team using three baskets: organic waste (food and vegetable scraps), non-organic waste (plastic and other dry waste) and hazardous waste
- How separated organic waste is turned into Safa Mal organic fertiliser, and how dry waste is recovered and recycled
- Questions from participants about collection in their own wards
Thank you to Khairahani Municipality and to everyone who took part. Well-separated waste at home is the first and most important step towards a clean town.
