On Monday, 5 December 2022, ward-level waste management awareness programmes were held in Khairahani Municipality, Chitwan. The sessions took the message closer to home: residents, ward representatives and community members gathered in their own wards to learn how to manage household waste.
What the sessions covered
- Why separating waste at the source matters for a clean ward and a healthy environment
- The difference between organic and non-organic waste, and what each can become
- A live demonstration by the Safa Urja team with colour-coded baskets for organic waste, non-organic and plastic waste, hazardous waste and glass waste
- How the collection service would work in each ward, and what residents can do to support it
- Questions and suggestions from participants
Thank you to Khairahani Municipality, the ward offices and every resident who took part. Working ward by ward is how separation at home becomes a habit across the whole municipality.
