On Wednesday, 27 September 2023 (2080 Ashwin 10 BS), the Chhetrapur vegetable and fruit growers group distributed Safa Mal, our organic fertiliser, to all of its members. The programme took place at Diyalo Foodland in Bharatpur, Chitwan, alongside the 16th annual general meeting of Siddhi Binayak Saving & Credit Co-operative.
Representing Safa Urja on stage, Dr. Ramhari Poudyal spoke about sustainability: how organic waste from our towns can go back to the soil as fertiliser, instead of ending up in landfill.
Why it matters for growers
- Organic fertiliser feeds the soil, not just the crop, and improves soil structure and organic carbon
- It releases nutrients slowly and helps the soil hold air and water
- It reduces the need for extra chemical inputs on vegetables and fruit
- It is made in Nepal, from separated organic waste, through aerobic composting
