Roughly half of what a Nepali household throws away is organic. Dumped, it rots and releases methane. Composted, it becomes food for soil.
The process
- Collection — segregated wet waste from homes, markets and hotels
- Screening — contaminants such as plastic are removed
- Active composting — microorganisms break material down; we manage air, moisture and temperature
- Curing — the compost matures and stabilises
- Screening and packing — finished as Safa Mal fertiliser
What good compost does for soil
- Improves structure so roots grow more easily
- Increases water retention — important in dry months
- Feeds soil life, not just the plant
- Releases nutrients slowly, reducing runoff
