The Journey of Plastic: From Your Bin to a New Pipe

August 28, 2026

Every plastic bottle you set out for collection begins a second life. This is the story of where it goes, who handles it, and what it becomes.

1. Collection

When our tractor reaches your ward, plastics are gathered and carried to our Material Recovery Facility. What you do at home matters enormously here — clean, separated plastic is far more recoverable than plastic mixed with food waste.

2. Sorting

At the facility, the work of sorting begins. Bottles, containers, films and mixed plastics are separated by type, because each behaves differently when reprocessed.

3. Cleaning and granulation

Sorted plastic is cleaned and shredded into small granules known locally as dana. These granules are the raw material of a second life.

4. A new product

The granules are melted and reshaped into durable products — pipes carrying irrigation water to fields, or interlocking eco-bricks paving a public path.

Nothing useful is wasted — a discarded bottle can return as a pipe carrying clean water.
